The Bandola llanera (from the plains) is an instrument that, according to the historians, arrived at Venezuela around XVI century brought by the Spaniards, who would as well have inherited it of the diverse families of lutes that the Arabs took to Spain during the several centuries of their domination in the Iberian Peninsula. The Bandola is used like soloist instrument or companion to singers and copleros to interpret the most diverse songs of the plains: gopes, pasages, corridos and tones of mourning, among others. Like the harp, and in many cases like its substitute, the bandola is accompanied by a cuatro and maracas and are an exceptional instrument for the execution of what it has been considered as the national dance, the joropo. You can listen to it aquí
Made by Martín Zapala and shipped from Guadalajara, Mexico.
