Historic note about charango: This instrument is modeled along the lines of a classic guitar, although smaller and featuring 10 strinngs. Traditionally the charango had an armadillo (Quirquincho) shell for its sound box, but today wood is more common.
Ask anyone to describe the music of the Andes and they will probably mention the "little guitar instrument". They are, in fact, referring to the charango.
